A place to read, relax and relate!
Last week, I shared with you how I was going to revisit using MyFitnessPal app to help me on my health journey. Do you think that after a week of eating 4th of July barbecue and leftovers, logging my calories in MyFitnessPal made a difference?
I started logging my calories on July 5th with the goal of stopping the steady rise of my weight. The recovering optimistic in me was secretly hoping to lose a pound of fat. However, I knew that wasn’t likely without me making any changes to what I ate.
I started logging my steps and calories in MyFitnessPal on July 5th and 6 days later I have lost 0.4 lbs. Those who are advocates for fast weight lost may be hearing “whomp, whomp,” in the back of their minds. I mean who celebrates 0.4 lbs? Me, that’s who. I mean that 0.4 lbs happened without me changing what I ate. Truthfully, tracking what I ate put a pause on me eating larger portions and extra snacks and that tweak resulted in weight loss.
Though it would be nice to lose all the weight in the blink of an eye. Losing weight fast usually means loose skin, and loss of muscle mass. I don’t have enough muscle mass to spare which means I need to lose the weight slow and steady. With that said I’ll continue on with my revisited pearl, MyFitnessPal, and will start making little changes on my slow and steady road to fitness and health.
This week I will increase my daily steps, which sadly is currently an average of 2,782 steps a day. Now before you laugh, let me explain that until recently, I have been tracking my steps using my iPhone and the Pacer app. This gives an accurate reading, however you have to remember to take your phone with you in order for them to be calculated. I have some other excuses, but it’s time to put those aside and get to stepping.
Starting this week I will use my new Misfit Flash, which I purchased because I was failing miserably at a walking challenge at work and realized I was missing a lot of steps because I have been using my phone. It helped that the Misfit Flash was only $24.99 and I was able to get $2o off through a company discount. Now I will attempt to get a minimum of 5,000 steps a day. Yeah I know we are supposed to get 10,000 a day and I will get there, but not until I make some other changes.
Next week I’ll share my progress and review of Misfit Flash (pebble or pearl) with anyone that is interested and if you’d like to comment and share your health journey with me, I’d love to hear from you.
Here’s to improving our health and happiness!
