My Road to HealthTwo years ago I came face to face with a health issue that changed my perspective on life and living. I’m still going through the journey to reclaim my health, but I need to refocus. Sometimes you have to turn off the outside noise and focus in on God’s voice. Then you have to take the time to find out what does and doesn’t work for you.

For me I am believing God for my healing, but I believe He has given me (each of us) the power to increase, or decrease, our health.  Now on my mission to find pearls among the pebbles that work for me and my family I have reignited the desire to find things that make us healthy, happy and productive.

Before I start looking for new pearls to add to my repertoire I must revisit the old tools that I know work, but for one reason (excuse) or another I’m not currently using. First on deck is my MyFitnessPal. MyFitnessPal is a free calorie counter, diet and exercise journal.  You can access it via your computer or an app from your phone.

I love that you can set goals, track your: weight, calories, water intake, steps for the day, and exercises. It also includes a blog that is full of healthy recipes, health tips, nutrition facts, workouts tips, etc. In addition to that they have a great community where you can engage with other users to support and learn.

The feature I love the most is the ability to follow your friends and support one another.   You don’t see their weights or personal information, but you do see that they worked out and when they posted that they lost weight.

Does using MyFitnessPal work? Is it truly a pearl? My answer is yes. When I used it I lost about 20 lbs. I stopped using it 4 months ago and gained 6 pounds. I think it’s the fact that it makes you accountable for meeting your goals, that makes it work.

My goals are to lose fat, build muscle, and increase my endurance, flexibility, strength and feeling of well-being through healthy eating and life-style habits.  There it is, out in the universe.

We often wait for someone to reach their goals and then ask, how did you do it?  If you haven’t already done so, why not start your journey too? Not saying today, we all know it’s the Fourth of July, but why not on the 5th or 6th? If you decide to join MyFitnessPal and want a friend to encourage you along your health journey send me a friend request at JMarie07.

You might say I would, but I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Begin with the decision that you want to be healthy and figure it out from there. Your health depends on it.

I’ll post weekly updates on Monday and hope to see your updates in the comments.

Here’s to improving our health and happiness! Have a great Fourth of July!
