A place to read, relax and relate!
In a previous post I spoke to you about Choosing Your Publishing Path. Whether you’ve chosen to self-publish in the traditional way or through Print on Demand (POD), you are on the publishing track. You are now busy choosing a book cover, approving the typeset and layout, writing the back matter (which you must have edited too) and so on and so forth.
One book that I continue to refer back to is Dan Poynter’s Self-Publishing Manual How to Write, Print and Sell Your Own Book. It walks you through the nuts and bolts of self-publishing and even breaks down the parts of the book. Before you publish you want to learn about copyright, right of privacy, illegal reproduction, negligence, taxes, etc. This book will give you a good grounding and I would suggest anyone who is interested in self-publishing to read it and keep it on their shelves for reference. I’ve referred to this book for years, and have recently ordered volume 2.
Be excited about going through the process of self-publishing and don’t let fear of the unknown derail you. There are plenty of resources out there to help you through the process. This blog being one of them. Refer to your publishing schedule and as you learn about anything you may have not known about, build it in. Keep notes on things you want to remember for the next time you go through the process and keep moving forward until every task is completed to your satisfaction. When you have the product of all your hard work in your hands you’ll forget all your doubts, fears and stressors.
Click here for a free copy of my Write & Self-publish chart. It provides the high-level steps you need to write and self-publish your book. I’m currently blogging my way through each step to provide more detail. I invite you to comment and ask any questions you may have on writing and self-publishing your book.
I have written and published six novels. My latest book entitled Life on Fire, co-written with my sister Karen D. Bradley, was released in June 2015. If you are new to writing a book or self-publishing and want to follow along as I share what I’ve learned, either subscribe to receive my blog posts at www.jenettambradley.com or request to be added to my group on Facebook, JB’s Writers Studio where the links to the posts will be shared. The group will also be a place for members to ask questions and share information.
