My version with aloe vera gel.

My first DIY post was on a homemade honey face wash. I have officially placed this in the pearl category for me. With the success of the face wash I wanted to find a DIY moisturizer to add to my skin care repertoire. It had to be able to protect and sustain my skin during the upcoming Chicago winter.

After some research I found a simple three ingredient on naturalandhealthyliving.com that I turned into a simple four ingredient recipe. I loved that they listed the ingredient benefits.

Below is the Natural and Healthy living recipe with the benefits of each ingredient:

Coconut Oil

Anti-Aging. Again very, very moisturizing but also contains anti-fungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Has similar effects on the skin to an antioxidant.

Vitamin E Oil

Scar healing. Vitamin E is known to really good at reducing scar tissue, acne and skin blemishes. It’s why it’s in popular scar and acne ‘over the counter’ treatments. Additionally, the oil helps hold this solution together.

Lavender Oil

Relaxing. Lavender oil is a well known antioxidant, helping to rid skin of free radicals. It’s a great overall muscle relaxer and it’s similar to vanilla in this respect.

Ingredients

1/2 cup coconut oil

1 teaspoon liquid vitamin E

12 drops lavender essential oil

Method:

Yes, you wanted simple! We warned you. Simply melt the coconut oil (by placing the jar into a bowl of warm water) and mix in the Vitamin E and Lavender, give it a mix up and let it set.

Whip with a fork if you want.

My tweak to the recipe

Add 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel.

I wanted to use aloe vera because I read that it regenerate skin cells and reduces wrinkles and blemishes.  I also store my moisturizer in the refrigerator, it makes it hard, but I like the coolness against my skin when applying.
